Question: Velma, I’m feeling overwhelmed these days with taking care of my work, the kids, cooking, and social life. I do not seem to find the time to take care of myself at all. I’m feeling run down and just want to put my life on pause until I can get some sleep and catch up with everything that’s been put on hold and left undone. What can I do to relieve some of this stress and anxiety?
Answer: Thank you so much for reaching out and asking for help. I sense your exhaustion. Here are a few tips that will help you begin right away to bring more peace and calm into your life:
- Before getting out of the bed, take 3 minutes or more to allow your body, mind, and spirit to awaken in a peaceful state as opposed to feet on the floor and out the door. During these 3 minutes, breathe slowly and consciously. Begin at your toes/feet and move up your body with ease and grace. Put your attention on your feet, take a deep breath; put your attention on your calves and knees, take a deep breath; put your attention on your legs, take a deep breath. Move up your entire body until you reach your head. As you breathe slowly and consciously, repeat “I am at peace.” “I am in peace.” I am peace.” Say these affirmations until you feel ready to rise and shine and throughout your day as you feel the stress coming back. Nip that in the bud.
- Delegate. Are there others in your family or in your circle of friends or co-workers that you could ask for help? Lots of times we feel like ‘it wont get done right unless we do it.’ This limiting belief causes us to get worn out because we’re doing it all for everyone. This will take a toll on your health and well-being very quickly. Even the smallest of chores can be delegated. Make sure you’re tending to the matters that really matter. Learn to let some of the insignificant things go.
- ‘No’ is a complete sentence. As you determine what you can do and what’s not fitting into your schedule or your responsibilities, practice and become a master at comfortably and confidently saying no. It’s totally okay not to be everyone’s solution to their problem. You may be pleasantly surprised how much more free time you find when you use this tip. The more you do it, the easier it becomes.
- Reach out for support. There’s something very powerful when two or more people gather in a space that is safe and healing. I am here to be of support to help you lighten up all over. Please contact me and we’ll get you through this with love and light, ease and grace.
